Assistant Manager - Strategic Advisory Services

KPMG's Infrastructure and Government Strategic Advisory Services (SAS) team needs talented individuals who have a passion for built infrastructure. Our team supports government and infrastructure clients with their most complex challenges. 

We get involved in many fascinating projects. We develop strategies for the implementation of government policy, designing operating models that underpin public services. We structure holistic supplier relationships that create and maintain physical and digital asset systems.  

 

Typically, the advice we provide can be categorised as: 

Policy, regulation, and service model design 

Business operating model design and implementation 

Procurement and commercial strategy

We are working on some fascinating public issues including Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) implications for the public sector and its partners, the future structure of the rail sector, the implications from the rise of electric and autonomous vehicles and how to deliver some of the largest most complex infrastructure programmes in the UK. 

 

What will you be doing?  

  • You will perform a critical role contributing to client workstreams, supporting business development, and helping our team to grow and develop. 

  • Develop solutions to problems and collaborate with more senior colleagues and clients 

  • Generate hypotheses and contribute to storyboarding to help with solving our clients most complex and challenging problems 

  • Take ownership of small workstreams within engagements and contribute to larger workstreams, working closely with workstream leads. 

  • Produce client ready deliverables 

  • Liaise effectively with clients whilst working on engagements and act as an ‘ambassador’ for KPMG 

  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients 

  • Provide timely feedback and coaching to our team members 

  • Build and maintain a strong internal and external network 

  • Contribute to business development opportunities by helping with the generation of proposals and bid documentation 

 

What will you need to do it? 

  • Evidence of strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities 

  • Structured thinking skills combined with creativity 

  • Be comfortable handling ambiguity and changing client demands 

  • Ability to review and assess technical data and distil the key strategic insights 

  • Ability to evaluate complex problems and support delivery of insightful recommendations that can be practically executed 

  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills 

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and interest in working on critical public sector issues and the delivery of the infrastructure and services that help realise public policy 

  • Experience of working with or researching a range of stakeholders/clients and having an emerging understanding of the issues facing the infrastructure sector and/or large-scale procurements 

 

Skills we’d love to see/Amazing Extras: 

  • A passion for learning and maintaining knowledge of trends in the latest thinking related to client operational and/or supplier delivery models 

  • Professional qualification (or working towards one) such as MCIPS, MRICS or relevant postgraduate degrees welcome
