Knowledge Management – Senior Manager
Responsibilities
Strategy
Develop and implement KPMG Law’s knowledge management strategy for the purposes of:
- promoting excellence and commerciality as the norm for our lawyers.
- increasing efficiency and revenue generation.
- reducing risk.
- identifying and developing new market opportunities.
Culture
- Foster and spearhead a culture where knowledge is valued, shared and used.
- Create and manage a cross-firm knowledge community, coordinating fee earners, LegalTech and others.
Implementation
- Assess the firm’s current and future knowledge management needs by working with practice group leaders to ensure the most appropriate provision of knowledge to their teams (focus on tech, substance and delivery mechanism).
- Develop policies, procedures and systems to meet applicable knowledge management needs and to capture and share knowledge across all practices and offices.
- Secure leadership support for the adoption of the knowledge management program throughout KPMG Law.
- Drive continual knowledge management service improvement, using new technologies as appropriate.
- Ensure that the firm’s lawyers have the skills to use knowledge management resources independently.
- Manage the knowledge management operations and budgets.
Law and learning
- Monitor knowledge trends, legal technology trends, law firm business trends and legal developments, and share this information as appropriate across KPMG Law.
- Work with KPMG’s Learning and Development function to embed a culture of continuous learning and align professional learning and knowledge management.
Business Development
- Work with the Business Development and LegalTech teams to identify knowledge management opportunities in order to solve business challenges and improve client service.
- Identify opportunities for internal and client-facing knowledge sharing, business development and marketing initiatives.
Qualifications and characteristics
Experience, knowledge and qualifications
- Prior experience as practising lawyer.
- A minimum of 4 years’ knowledge management experience operating at a senior level.
- Experience of creating and implementing new knowledge management programmes and policies within a budgetary and set time-frames.
- Experience of working across multiple locations.
Strategic thinking:
- Strategic, creative and commercial thinker able to assess the firm’s future needs and identify new areas of opportunity.
- An interest in, and knowledge of, new technologies and their potential impact on knowledge systems.
- Good judgement and a skill in identifying and prioritising added value and strategic tasks and aligning them with knowledge management initiatives.
Communication, presentation and listening skills:
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and with intellectual rigour on both practical and academic issues.
- Ability to deliver impartial strategic advice in a consultative manner.
- Strong listening skills with the ability to discover and understand the needs of stakeholders.
Relationship building and networking skills:
- Team player with a 'can-do' attitude, combining high EQ and determination to work effectively with senior stakeholders and the firm’s lawyers across different disciplines and locations.
- Ability to motivate and persuade lawyers to contribute knowledge and to adhere to knowledge management processes.
Organisation and time management skills:
- Ability to grasp ideas and organise them into a plan.
- Strong project and change management skills.
- Structured approach to tasks with strong attention to detail combined with an ability to make pragmatic and practical decisions.
- Ability to operate under pressure to resolve issues in a controlled and calm fashion.
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple proactive and reactive tasks and requirements, balancing long and short-term priorities.
