Job description

Summary:

As the ESG Assurance market transitions from voluntary led assurance to mandatory assurance under regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager to join our growing sustainability/ESG (‘Environmental, Social and Governance’) and non-financial information assurance business team, within our wider Audit function. We provide assurance for large corporate companies across a range of sectors, on a wide variety of topics.

 

These include Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, waste, water, community investment, sustainable supply chains, health and safety (H&S), diversity, gender pay gap, responsible investing and other non-financial information, as well as regulatory assurance for a range of industries. This is a great opportunity to work within one of the sector’s fasted growing areas and be at the forefront of driving sustainability within the corporate world.

 

As a Senior Manager, you will be responsible for managing these assurance engagements. Your role will entail management of all aspects of the end-to-end engagement process. You will work with Directors and Partners to deliver sustainability/ESG assurance. Training in ESG assurance will be provided. The role also entails leading teams and supervising the work of junior staff, and you will have performance management responsibilities for a number of employees.
 

 

Description of Role:

  • Managing assurance engagements including: working to agree timetables; agreeing fees; overseeing the scope of work and deliverables, the quality of the testing and assurance fieldwork; overseeing engagement and client acceptance procedures; resolving any issues; preparing and reviewing the final reporting.
  • Completing the first review of documentation on the assurance file in line with KPMG’s quality standards and our internal KKPMG Execution Guide for Assurance (KEGA). It will be your responsibility to ensure this task is conducted in a thorough and complete manner.
  • Juggling multiple client requests when working on different sustainability/ESG Assurance engagements.
  • Managing engagements in line with the assurance standards ISAE (UK) 3000 and ISAE 3410 or equivalent.
  • Coaching the Manager and overseeing work performed by the rest of the team.
  • Performance managing junior team members, ensuring that you are having rich development conversations that supports their growth and career progression.
  • Supporting the Director/Partner in identifying and pursuing new assurance opportunities.
  • Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders and acting as an ambassador for the firm.
  • Identifying, researching and helping to resolve complex sustainability/ESG assurance issues.
  • Being responsible for engagement finances and budgeting.
  • Developing and improving the standardised Assurance workprogrammes.

 

 

Experience and Knowledge Requirements

  • Experience in financial statement audit. (E)
  • Proven experience in a sustainability/environmental related field, including experience of delivering and managing sustainability assurance engagements for large clients (ideally FTSE 350 or equivalent) under ISAE 3000 and ISAE 3410. (E)
  • Strong understanding of industry reporting frameworks and regulations such as the CSRD, ISSB, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), TCFD and the GHG Protocol. (E)
  • Experience in the review and development of Audit/Assurance working papers.(E)
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering high quality, complex projects with stakeholder deliverables. (E)
  • Experience of working directly with and reporting to senior client stakeholders, including issue identification and resolution. (E)
  • Experience of budget management. (E)
  • Experience of leading and managing teams, coaching and mentoringstaff. (E)
  • Business development experience with new and existing clients. (E)
  • IT literate with sound knowledge and experience of MS Office tools(Excel, PowerPoint and Word). (E)
